Help choosing a breed, from people with nothing to sell you
Most breed pages are written by a hatchery with stock to move, or sit ten replies deep in a forum thread. We set out every breed the same way, downsides included, so you can pick one and get on with it.
What you can do here
- Narrow down a breed. Filter a whole species by purpose and size, then compare two or three.
- Check a breed before you buy. Each page lists who it suits and who should look elsewhere.
- Plan the practical side. Work out breeding dates, cage sizes and first-year costs.
- Find a seller. We point you to directories, clubs and several breeders for each breed.
Who writes it
Breeders and vets who check a page are named on it. How pages are made and checked.
How we pay for it
Ads, and a commission on some links to supplies and sellers. Money never decides which breeds we cover, what we say about them or which sellers we list. If we ever take paid listings, they'll be labelled.
